Job description: Position Summary:The Project Engineer II will lead the design project management responsibilities of Water plant and utility design projects. They are responsible for leading coordination with key stakeholders and project team members throughout the project and oversee projects through completion in a timely and cost-effective manner. They are responsible for the quality and the on-time completion of surveying, design, and construction phase services as required of the project.The successful candidate should be a Professional Engineer with experience managing a design team, coordinating with clients or stakeholders and leading the delivery of Water treatment plant capital improvement design projects. In addition to project delivery responsibilities, candidates must demonstrate the ability to manage personnel, budgets, schedules, sub consultants and client interaction. The candidate will work closely with the Director of Engineering to meet department metrics and business development activities. Municipal engineering experience includes designing pump stations, pipelines, water treatment facilities, and experience performing hydraulic and water modeling is required.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing project tasks, project design and permitting, construction coordination, and coordinating work with other team members/sub-consultants.
  • Focused on the production of design phase deliverables including reports, technical memoranda, design manuals, plans, sections, details, and specifications.
  • Engineering calculations and detailed design for projects such as water distribution, water treatment, including pumping and storage.
  • Engineering calculations for improvements and retrofitting of existing treatment facilities.
  • Knowledgeable of available funding sources for public water infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with funding application submittals and project reporting requirements for compliance.
  • Lead production team through technical trainings as required for projects.
  • Understanding the importance, implementation and use of company SOPs.
  • Experience with coordinating and obtaining approvals from regulatory agencies.
  • All other duties assigned by management.

Project Engineer Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • PE in the State of Texas.
  • 4-5 + years of experience in Water Treatment Plant design, distribution and collection, infrastructure improvement and retrofitting.
  • AutoCad Civil 3D, Water Modeling (WaterCAD, EPANET, etc.), SewerCAD
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong sense of self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and customers by telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, crawling, and handling, sitting, pushing, and pulling.
